Prerequisites to Java First Steps

Create a Folder (aka Directory)

• Using Windows Explorer (Most Windows platforms)
  • Navigate to the folder in which you wish to create a sub-folder.
  • Click on File, New, Folder
  • Now type the name of the folder.

Unzip Files

• WinZip
  • Configure WinZip
    • Options, Configuration
    • Click on the "Folders" tab
    • Extract folder - choose "Open archive folder"
    • Add folder - choose "Open archive folder"
    • Click on the "System" tab
    • For "General" section, choose all options
    • For "Show Add dialog..." section, choose all options
  • Extract files from a .zip file.
    • Place the .zip file in the directory that you want to extract to.
    • Double click on the .zip file.
    • Click on the "Extract" icon.
    • Check the "Extract to" directory.  With the configuration above it should extract into the directory you opened the archive in.
    • Make sure the the option "User folder names" is checked.
    • Click on the "Extract" button.
